Dr. Michael O'ConnellMB, BCh, BAO, FRCOG, FRCPI, FICOG (Hon), MSc Executive Leadership, MD, DCH, FP Cert, Post Graduate Diploma in Research Training, Diploma in Management for Medical Doctors
Dr O’Connell completed his primary medical degree in University College Cork in 1989. He received a diploma in Child Health from University College Dublin. He holds an MD (Hons) from the University of Hull, along with a postgraduate diploma in research training. He has a diploma in Management for Medical Doctors from the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland. He completed a MSc (Distinction) in Executive Leadership in the University of Ulster in 2010.

He is also a Fellow of RCOG, a Fellow of RCPI, and Honorary Fellow of the Indian College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
He is currently the Clinical Lead for Digital Strategy and Innovation and Clinical Lead for International Fellowships in RCPI. He is a member of council for RCPI, and has held the roles of Vice President, National Speciality Director and Censor. He chairs the exam committee in IOG. He sits on the credentials committee, economy committee, examination committee and renumeration committee for RCPI.
He publishes academic papers regularly and is heavily involved in research in the Coombe.
He regularly speaks and teaches abroad, most recently in India, Canada, Qatar and Oman.
He has worked in hospitals in Limerick, Cork and Dublin in Ireland and also the Cork Family Planning Clinic. Whilst training abroad he has worked in York, Hull, Scarborough in the UK and Groote Schuur Hospital, in Cape Town, South Africa. He was also a consultant in Mount Carmel before it’s closure. He has been a special lecturer in UCD and a senior lecturer in RCSI. He was previously the Assistant Master in NMHS, Holles Street.
He is currently a Consultant Obstetrician in the Coombe Women and Infants University Hospital. He is also Clinical Director for Integration in the Coombe Women and Infants University Hospital and Midland Regional Hospital Portaloise.
He has organised non-clinical activities in RCPI and the Coombe. He has supported Friends of the Coombe in the past, organising their annual fashion show.
